I have seen a number of people asking the question ‘when will the Welsh squad for the autumn internationals be announced’ so, being the kind, caring (and bored – it’s either do this or actually work) individual that I am I thought I would let you know…
It’s being announced on Sunday.
Which means that this weekend the players are going to be playing for their places. Scrum half especially is up for grabs now that Mike Phillips has been ruled out of the Welsh squad – Dwayne Peel has come back from injury at the right time but last year the English club Sale wouldn’t release him for the first game, which is outside of the international ‘window’ and there is worry it will be the same again.
Other places up for grabs include openside flanker, with Martyn Williams hoping to eb back but other than that Dafydd Jones, Robin Snowden-Taylor and Sam Warburton must all be hoping for a call up.
Tight head is a worry with no Adam Jones, the very fact that Deacon Manu is being considered shows our problems there (though he has improved this season, to be fair to him). Eiffon Roberts, like Dwayne Peel playign his rugby at Sale, is one option that a lot of Guinness Premiership fans are raving about – will be interesting to see which way Warren Gatland and co go.
