Tom Cheeseman Signs for the Dragons

The Newport-Gwent Dragons have secured the signing of Tom Cheeseman from Bath on loan for the rest of the season.

The move for the centre has come with the Dragons short of midfield men – injuries to Ashley Smith, Tom Cooper and Matthew Watkins has left the team short of cover. Couple this with the likely banning of Aled Brew meaning that his brother Nathan Brew could well be needed as wing cover and you can see how the Dragons need quality and fast.

Tom Cheeseman is Welsh born, so is not an issue with the WRU participation agreement, indeed his father is ex-Swansea flanker Trevor Cheeseman.

He has made 83 appearances for Bath and a few years back was having a number of people mentioning him as one to watch. His development hasn’t progressed as many would have liked but hopefully the game time and exposure he will get down at Rodney Parade will allow him to fulfil the potential many have seen in him.

Certainly we hope the move is a success, and that this can help out both the Dragons and Tom.

Talking about his move Tom Cheeseman had this to say

“I’m really happy to be coming back to Wales. I played here for many years before moving to Bath and it’s great that the Dragons are giving me the opportunity to come back.”

“I have to admit it’s a bit nerve-wracking to be coming into such a big weekend with the game away game at the [Cardiff] Blues,” said Cheeseman.

“It’s hard work learning all the moves in a short time but I’ve already done a training session and the players are really easy-going.

“The coaches have been very helpful and I’m really looking forward to pulling on a Dragons jersey.”
