On this side of the World all we could do is look on in horror as Christchurch was hit by a devastating earthquake. The 6.3 Richter scale quake took the lives of 160 people and has impacted far, far more than that.
Relief agencies, help and aid have all been needed to assist those who were hit – and all this costs money, as will the people who are looking to rebuild both their homes and their lives. Recovering from a disaster like this can cost a huge amount of money.
Rugby, as ever, rallies around it’s own – and Christchurch is certainly one of ours.
But the Southern Hemisphere have been hit harder than just that – Queensland have suffered some of the worst floods a major city has ever had to live through, and need help rebuilding. Queensland, like Christchurch, is a hot bed of rugby and deserves our help in recovering.
Give Money by Having Fun
This Sunday (6th March) will see the Pacific Baabaas take on an Australian XV at Old Deer Park, the usual home of London Welsh. The proceeds of the game will go to help out the victims of the quake and the flooding – and at just £10 for, as you will see below, an amazing day’s entertainment you certainly can’t go wrong.
The teams are no mugs either. Leading out the Aussie XV will be Australian rugby legend George Smith, and for the Pacific Barbarians the New Zealand legend and current Ospreys star Jerry Collins.
Whilst the game kicks off at 3.00pm there is an entire day’s entertainment planned.
As well as what will be a great game of rugby there is an Aussie Rules match (great for those of us that know nothing about the sport – maybe we can see what the fuss is about), an International touch rugby match, an Aussie Beer Tent with live music a ‘Pacific Village’ and much more besides.
So if you are in London on Sunday (or indeed can get there) you should get your rear end, and your wallet (the rest of your body can do what it likes) down to Old Deer Park and help out what is a very worthy cause.

So – anyone else going? I’m planning on being there…
