The BBC has confirmed that Gavin Henson, the former rugby player, will be on the flag ship dancing show strictly come dancing. This move, for me, confirms that Henson is through with his interest in rugby, no matter what he claims, and instead simply wants to earn his living as a celebrity.
That’s fine, though he really should stop paying lip service to rugby now. He has claimed that he wants to play in the World Cup, that it is the “only thing missing from my CV” (presumably he doesn’t care about winning the Heineken Cup then). But when it came down to taking part in a dance contest or competing for a World Cup place he chose the sequins and fox trot.
This blog has been a defender of Henson in the past, enjoying what he had previously brought to the game and believing him when he said he will come back. Which is why I feel let down now.
If he truly believes he will still challenge for a World Cup place, not being able to properly train with a rugby team until January, then he is arrogant beyond all belief. It will be pushing two years since he last played rugby and he expects, in a matter of months, to be able to force himself back into the Welsh team?
Or he is lying to us and has no interest in coming back at all. Just like he promised Osprey fans he would be back in an Ospreys shirt this season, just like he promised us he wanted to play in the World Cup. I don’t care what his intentions were, what he says, the fact is he has now chosen to take part in 2 reality shows (and an odd electrocution thing) rather than play rugby.
So cheers Gav, appreciate what you did – but time to quit the lip service, admit you are a celebrity rather than a rugby player and get on with trying to flaunt yourself to the press and TV cameras.

I know he raises much comment, although on balance the tide seems to be turning against him.
Just consider this though…he obviously doesn’t want to play for the Ospreys…and he’s not being paid by the Ospreys….
BUT
he is *still* under contract to the Ospreys….so he cant play for anyone else.
What is he supposed to do? go down the benefits office and sign on? he needs to earn money as much as the next man.
I would say the people we need to be looking at now is the Ospreys board. Tell them to release him from his contract so he can get playing rugby with a team he does want to play with. I just still (stupidly?) think that there is something that wasnt right for him at the Liberty and that it would probably be detrimental to him and possibly the region if he went back! Ospreys, just let him go!
I hope he gets a new contract that way we both would be happy.ill like the guy but he gets me into trouble all the time in swansea because people think im or look like him
what should i doo!! ? ? ?
