The Western Mail has again managed to outdo itself in poor journalism, this time with its efforts to cast light on poor attendances at the regions. Now don’t get me wrong, I do think things need to improve on that front, and in some cases rather drastically, but yet again the levels of investigation and consideration of all the facts leave a lot to be desired.

There seems to be an odd feeling amongst some Welsh rugby fans at the moment. It seems nothing is good enough.
Why do I say that? Well the huge amount of complaints people seem to be making following on from the Ospreys (admittedly dire) 9 – 9 draw with Glasgow at the Liberty Stadium on Friday.

Who here reads the Guardian? If you do you may have come across this wonderful rugby article yesterday.
Of course when I say wonderful I mean shockingly thought out, ill consideration of facts and desperately floundering for examples to try validate their own point of view.
I may lay into the Western Mail a lot but at leats they haven’t, to my knowledge, felt the need to tell us how to ‘fix rugby’ as if there was something very wrong with it. The Guardian have however, and they did it without thought or effort.
Read on to understand why I couldn’t care less about the Guardian’s rugby commentary any more.

Due to popular demand (well a few of you) ‘Western Mail Watch’ has started up, a series of blog posts here on the Welsh Rugby Blog that are designed to look at the news reports coming from the Western Mail and pick them apart so people can understand what they really mean.
This is, I admit, a bit of a false start but it should help show you just how much needs to be done to understand what is actually behind the Western Mails ‘articles’.
