Two Welsh Rugby Transfers to England

There are two Welsh players transferring to English clubs this week. David Bishop, formerly of the Ospreys until they let him go is on trial at Sale Sharks whilst Scarlets fly half Ceiron Thomas joins Leeds. Two very interesting moves.

David Bishop

David Bishop is a player I was a big fan of when he first burst onto the scene for the Ospreys. He had strength, pace and good hands – and looked a far better prospect than his brother (the now internationally capped Andrew Bishop).

Unfortunately he has been plagued by injuries and so his career has not progressed in the way many people had thought and hoped it would. he had his come back for the Ospreys this season, playing in 6 games. Unfortunately he didn’t get much of a chance to shine as he was played out of position on the wing as injuries meant they desperately needed cover out there.David Bishop

His is only a trial with Sales Sharks, their Welsh Director of Rugby Kingsley Jones is going to be running the rule over him. But if he is given a chance I believe this is one player who has a lot more to come – and the strength and speed to do well in the Guinness Premiership.

Ceiron Thomas

The Scarlets outside half is joining Leeds in a bid for more first team action. Although he played a fair number of games many were out of position, with the Scarlets suffering many injury concerns all across the backline.

With British Lions star and Wales rugby legend Stephen Jones ahead of him, and most likely upcoming youngster Rhys Preistland as well, Ceiron was always going to struggle for game time in his position at outside half.

Ceiron has always been a decent squad player for the Scarlets so it will be interesting to see how he does at Leeds. Matthew Jones’ move to England certainly seemed to spur him on prior to injury, lets hope that the same goes for Ceiron.
