This Season – A Big Pile of Pants

This season has been far from the best from the point of view of Welsh rugby. In fact some may even suggest that it has been a big pile of pants after the promise of last season.

So I run a quick rule over how the season went and give a few positives and negatives that all the teams can take away from it

And some pants of course

Newport Dragons in the Last Ever Magners League Playoff for Heineken Cup Rugby

Newport Gwent Dragons have the unfortunate distinction of being the Welsh team in the last ever play off with an Italian team for a Heineken Cup place at the end of the season, which also means that any players picked in the Welsh squad to tour North America won’t be going.
This is because the Scarlets managed a win against a weakened Cardiff Blues side, condemning perennial play off team the Dragons to yet again play an Italian side to see which will take part in the premier competition of European …

Scarlets being taken to court by Dafydd James

Dafydd James has started high court proceedings against the Scarlets for illegal termination and loss of earnings.

The Llanelli based team activated a clause in Dafydd James’ contract after he was injured for over 26 weeks. A shocking way to treat a true Welsh rugby legend

So I manage another rant on the subject. Scarlets have shown their true colours. A disgrace.

I know this could well lose me some Scarlet fan readers, but please bear with me while I explain my headline and then make your own minds up.
Did you know that the Scarlets have been cancelling players contracts because they are injured?
Have you heard how they told Dafydd James, one of the longest serving Scarlets, that he can’t play for them – when he tried getting on a bus to go to a game he was selected for? He was told right in front of his team mates, on a …

Ex Wales and Newport Gwent Dragons flanker, Richard parks, retires from rugby age 31 – following a shoulder injury.

After 4 caps and a career taking him from Pontypridd to Perpignan Welsh rugby will miss this quality regional rugby player

Both sides have announced their teams for Wednesdays game.

None of the 5 remaining Cardiff Blues players (after Tom Shanklins injury) are in the squad, whilst the Scarlets name their two British Lions, Stephen Jones and Matthew Rees, on the bench.

To be honest both teams are fielding weak looking sides so I’m not expecting too much by way of intensity. But it will be interesting to see some of the players that have been named in the Welsh squad in action

Welsh Coaches Ignore Me – and Say That They Haven’t Decided James Hook’s Best Position Yet

Robin McBryde has joined Sean Holley in the belief that we are yet to find James Hook’s best position. Where are they going to try him next – flanker?

He is actually being considered as a center or full back for the tour. Quite an interesting choice for someone who has been described as ‘the next Barry John’.

Here we add (another) appeal to have Hook selected as a 10 – he’s got the potential to be world class there, lets not mess him about.

James Hook – Please Don’t Mess Him About

James Hook has the ability to be a top class 10, but coaches insist on trying him in new positions.

This is an appeal to leave him at outside half

Some Welsh Players Unlucky Not To Be Part Of The North America Tour

The Welsh rugby tour of North America has a number of surprise inclusions, and a surprising number of plays (8 backrowers for a 2 game series?).

But not all who might have made the squad have, some players can consider themselves desperately unlucky not to be on the trip.

So here we take a look at those Welsh rugby players who can consider themselves most unlucky not to make it. Look at our list and see if you agree or disagree, and use the comments to let the world know who you think should have made it.

Andy Powell

Seems the media explosion has begun following his debut for Wales vs South Africa in the close loss on Saturday. The Western Mail has, predictably, tipped him for the Lions… backed up by comments from Barry John and Martyn Williams.
Interesting. Not very accurate though. Indeed calling his game exceptional is pushing it beyond the realms of belief. Through my beer induced haze I admit I thought him the best player on the park and was confused why Mr Warren Gatland appeared to pour cold water on that by commenting on …
