The Welsh Squad for the 2012 6 Nations has been named, and it includes a few expected calls, and a few marginal ones (but then what squad doesn’t?).
A more detailed look will be coming tomorrow but for now some marginal calls include
- Henson is in the squad (a good call in this blogs opinion)
- Rhys Webb (never been that impressed with him)
- Cuthbert and Harry Robinson (we are woefully short of talented experienced wingers, so Gats is trying youngsters)
- Rhys Gill (didn’t think we’d see him here)
- Lour Reed (injuries must)

Rhys Webb is quality. You’re a wanker.
He has potential, but I remain unconvinced he can cut it at the top level. He has continually looked good vs poorer teams, or when the top players are away, but struggled for any sort of form when facing the top teams.
He is young so has time to develop, but right now I see him in the same way I see Nikki Walker…decent enough regional player but don’t want to see him on the international stage
Generally looks like predictable to fit needs, although I personally prefer Hibbard to Bennett despite success in Oz. Glad to see he intends to give Henson a chance.
No Stephen Jones – why?
Because hes shit and old
Webb has finally strung together a few impressive performances in a row, so it’s a fair call. While Beck isn’t setting the world alight, he does run good lines at speed and is at least as good as Jon Davies on current form. With our shallow midfield resources he’s a no-brainer.
There’s always room for a fit Henson IMO. Powell though?
