Surely This Welsh Rugby Hero Can Find a Team?

Because right now the Grand Slam hero that is Kevin Morgan is considering retirement because he hasn’t got a team.  His Dragons contract is up at the end of the season and the Newport based welsh rugby region have decided not to renew it.

Morgan, one of Welsh rugby’s most popular figures, is now hunting a new side.  When you consider the injury raveged season he’s had – and the Scarlets policy on injured players – he is having difficulty finding a new team.kevin-morgan

This guy has huge amounts to offer in my opinion.  Pace, a great angle of running and complete and utter commitment that goes above and beyond the call of duty.  Yes he has injuries but so often they come from him putting his body on the line for the cause of the team in ways that most players would think twice about.

With the amount of money the French sides are throwing at frankly average players I do hope that he can find a side there, or in the Guinness Premiership (Cardiff Blues and Ospreys already being well set at full back with Blair and Byrne respectively).

Thankfully he has a fall back.  He wants to be a strength and conditioning coach – and its not just knowledge gained from being injured so much that he will be calling upon.  He has also just gained his Masters in physiology.  To that end he has apparently applied for a few positions he is hoping to hear back about.

But I for one hope it doesn’t come to that.  He is one of my true rugby heroes, a man worthy of having kids look up to him.  I hope he can find a club – at 32 I am sure he still has a few years left in the legs.

Rugby Nick is a keyboard masher who likes to try and write about rugby when his fat fingers hit anything like the right buttons. Since he is in London he thought the obvious thing to write about would be Welsh rugby...
