The new Welsh rugby shirt, with it’s brand new sponsor, Admiral, has been revealed to the public. To great, well, groaning in my opinion.
The shirt looks remarkably like a cross between a football shirt and a rugby league one. Likenesses have been drawn to the Arsenal football kit and old Welsh football kits (see below). Certainly it doesn’t much look like a rugby union kit.
It’s a shame, I haven’t bought a new kit for awhile and was hoping this one was one that I would like, something I could wear with pride. But again some idiot thought that this was stylish… and so the Welsh fans are left with a ‘concept’ rather than a rugby shirt that means something to them.

The saving grace is that the teams are required to release a World Cup one for the tournament next year as the rules state (iirc) they can’t have sponsors on the shirt. So there is a chance we may end up with a wearable shirt next year.

The away shirt is not much better either…
When it comes down to it this is the Welsh shirt, so will sell well. I just hope that doesn’t mean the powers that be think it’s popular. We all know that Welsh fans will buy anything to do with rugby, so a top selling shirt means very little.

I don’t mind it – I think it looks better on a person than it does on the rail. I’m not over-keen on the sleeves, and it looks a bit too much like last year’s Scarlets top, but it could be worse.
The away is a joke though, why on earth would you choose your away kit colours to match your shirt sponsor? Unbelievable.

It’s awful. Just another in a long line of poor kit designs (remember the red shirt with green collar?). The RWC 2007 kit just added insult to the injury of the poor on-field performances, skin tight soccer shirts and white socks have no place on a rugby pitch.
Now we have under armour’s latest effort which doesn’t look much better, and again with the white socks.
Is it too much to ask to have the national teams wearing a proper red shirt without asymmetrical collars or white sleeves, and with proper red socks (or at a push, green socks)?
More to the point – it’s bad enough that some idiot “designer” thinks the kit lookds good. The real joke is that someone at WRU agrees with them and signs-off on the order!!
What is wrong with a nice collared rugby shirt? Got to say I am fed up with all this messing about with what is an important part of our culture. From now on classic cotton trader and like efforts only.
This kit is horrendous! It looks like a Welsh Football League kit and it doesnt look like a rugby kit in the slightest.
I was looking forward to buying the new kit, but there is no chance that i will buy this. I’d be surprised if this was a big seller as well, shocked in fact!
