Let Us All Talk About Gavin Henson
I don’t see why not, the press certainly are.
Gavin Henson goes into talks with Mike Cuddy and the rest of the Ospreys management (possibly, depending on the report you believe) in February. He will be talking about his future in the game and either
a) retiring
b) starting back or
c) starring in the West End
(Okay, i made that last one up, but it is about as relevant as a lot of the reports coming out).
This is shocking news, a player out on leave is talking about his future, let us all speculate, please. Because that is all that it is. Some news outlets have taken a few quotes by Mike Cuddy and said that Gav may be leaving the game in February. Some have taken the same quotes and said he may be making a ‘shock’ return in February.
I have taken those quotes and decided that he is going to be playing Danny in the West End production of Grease. I went to see it the other day and Gav would blatantly be better than Ray Quinn (who was doing it then) – so I stand by my opinion.
And that is all that this is. Ignore the hype and the usual rubbish being written and look at what the story is. Gavin is going to talk to Mike Cuddy about his future in February. We don’t know anything else, it is all speculation. Aside from mine, which is gospel don’t you know.
Disappointing
What I have found disappointing is Sean Holley’s comments about Gavin Henson today. As you know I am no big fan of Sean Holley but to come out and say the below quotes about one of your star players as he is deciding to come back or not smacks of really poor man management.
What did he say? Well according to the BBC it was this
“He would be able to get his weight back on and his fitness up to scratch, but after that, who knows?
“I remember when we signed Leigh Davies in 2005.
“He had taken a year out of the game, and while he was able to get his fitness and conditioning back to where they were, he struggled to get to grips with the way rugby had moved on even in the relatively short time he had been out and it did not work for him.
“I am not saying that would be the case with Gavin… in terms of natural talent he is as good as anyone, but he will almost be starting from scratch again.”
Is it just me or is that a really, really daft set of comments?
