Gareth Edwards to Make Shock Playing Comeback

The press have been swamping the near forgotten team of Fylde in the last week as ex England and British Lions legend Jason Robinson has decided to make a shock comeback to the sport. We are told it is his love for the game that has brought him back.

Good news, and it shows just how much rugby can effect a man. Some prefer their legends to bow out ‘at the top’ rather than keep going when they are no longer the player they were. But that view is, in my opinion, selfish.

Let them play rugby as long as they want. It is an amazing sport that you are a ‘long time retired from’ as the saying goes. Though don’t tell Henson that.

Gareth Edwards

But all this talk has had a surprising result. THE legend, the winner of numerous polls for the best player of all time, Mr Gareth Edwards, has decided to return the stage. But he isn’t looking for a lower league team – oh no. He wants to be playing at the top, he has a point to prove.

Jason Robinson’s new coach, Ex-Sale backs coach Mark Nelson, had this to say about Robinson’s comeback

“I am absolutely delighted we have signed Jason for next season,” stated Nelson. “Given his record in both codes of the game, it’s not an exaggeration to say he is the best ever rugby player.

That is thought to have been something of a challenge to the ever competitive Gareth Edwards, spurring him on to prove he is the right and just holder of the best player ever.

He didn’t have this to say

“I may not have played both codes, but that is because only one was worth lacing your boots up for. The ground humping one by a bunch of northerners isn’t a real sport” he didn’t say in a controversial manner.

He didn’t then go on to say

“The concept that this upstart is the best rugby player ever is a ludicrous one. Don’t get me wrong, he was very good, but most of the time he wasn’t even the best player on his team, never mind the world, and certainly not in the world ever.”

Warren Gatland is thought to be very excited about the idea of Gareth Edwards in a Welsh shirt again. Though if the rumour that none of the Welsh sides can afford him and so he will end up in France is true we will have to wait and see if Gatland stands by his policy of not selecting players outside of Wales.

Rugby Nick is a keyboard masher who likes to try and write about rugby when his fat fingers hit anything like the right buttons. Since he is in London he thought the obvious thing to write about would be Welsh rugby...
