Cardiff Blues Struck by Flu Virus

To add to the huge amount of injury worries that the Cardiff Blues currently have there have been hit by more bad news – a flu bug.

Blues’ stars Xavier Rush, Sam Warburton and Tom Shanklin are currently suffering from flu like symptoms, which is a big blow to the injury hit squad.

When you consider that they are already without Martyn Williams, Paul Tito, John Yapp, Bradley Davies, Gareth Thomas and Molitika for this match these are players that will be needed.  Xavier has been Cardiff’s best player for a long time now (beween him and ben Blair anyway) whilst Shanklin is an experienced Welsh international and Sam Warburton was, in my opinion, the best player during their last Heineken Cup game, the win against Harlequins.  There are also doubts over whether Welsh rugby prop Gethin Jenkins will be able to return for the game or not.

With Tito and Bradley Davies out the Blues are desperately short of 2nd rows – and now there is a worry over Scott Morgan too, who has a slight calf strain.  But coach Dai Young is confident he will be fit to play Sale this weekend.Cardiff_Blues badge

Dai Young, speaking to the South Wales Echo, had this to say

“Scott should be fine, but again, it’s a bit of a case of needs must, though obviously if someone is not fit, they’re not fit,”

“It’s a difficult time, but no amount of whingeing is going to help us.”

He said: “We just have to get on with it and head up to Sale and give it a right old go.

“We are going there aiming for nothing short of a win.

“The three lads who were off with flu should be ready for Friday – let’s face it, they will have to be.

“It is good news that Paul Tito wasn’t concussed but in reality he won’t be ready this week and he still has to see the neurosurgeon.

“Bradley has soft tissue damage to his neck and will be out for two weeks.

“We’re obviously struggling in the second row, but again, we’ll have to just make do with what we have.”
