Movember – I’m doing it

Who doesn’t love comedy moustaches? Who doesn’t love raising money for charity? Who doesn’t love Welsh rugby?

What combines all 3? Movember of course!

For those who don’t know what it is Movember is a charity ‘event’ that lasts a month with the aim of raising awareness about male prostate cancer and money for research into the cancer.

What does that mean? It means that people all over the country are growing facial hair in an effort to raise money for charity – and now I am one of them.

I first became aware of it when observing the Ospreys players odd facial hair a year or two back. It made me wonder if they had all lost a bet or something, but I was wrong – they were making a statement for charity – with moustaches. how cool is that?

The thing is moustaches are cool but creepy. They have been associated with lots of ‘types’ of people for years. But this month I get to grow a moustache without feeling creepy – instead I get to feel good about what I am doing.

Bad Movember News

It is not all good news though… in fact there is some bad news for you loyal readers of Welsh Rugby Blog. Starting tomorrow I will be posting pictures of myself every few days showing the progress of the movemeber moustache – meaning you have to see my gurning mug on a regular basis.

Worse – I’m ginger. Sorry to have to break it to you but I am, and yes, that means a ginger moustache. i should imagine that will put a fair few off the blog.

But for those of you who remain, please give generously. I am setting up a self target of £250 raised by the last day of Movember and I hope this blog can look at getting me most of the way there. So please give generously – even if generous is just a quid or two. You get all this rugby blogging for free – let’s give something to a good cause.
