Wales and Worcester Warriors tight head prop Chris Horsman has retired from rugby, aged 32, following repeated neck problems. It is understood that the severity of the neck issues mean that he would be unable to take the strain that goes hand in hand with being a tight head at the highest level.

It is a real shame to see Chris retire. Despite being born in England he adopted Wales, and us Welsh adopted him, very easily. A hard, tough competitor he helped sure up what was, at that time, a problem position for us.

Whilst he may have given away a few too many penalties his hard edge also helped stop the Welsh pack from being intimidated by opposing rugby sides – something that had been a real worry.

It should also be remembered that Horsman was a man who twice overcame cancer to continue playing at the highest level. That shows the strength, willpower and determination that this warrior has continually shown.

I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing him all the best now that his playing days are behind him. If he fancies teaching a few of our tightheads how to scrummage I’m sure Welsh rugby would be even more appreciative!
