Western Mail Watch Sort of Begins

Due to popular demand (well a few of you) ‘Western Mail Watch’ has started up, a series of blog posts here on the Welsh Rugby Blog that are designed to look at the news reports coming from the Western Mail and pick them apart so people can understand what they really mean.

This is, I admit, a bit of a false start but it should help show you just how much needs to be done to understand what is actually behind the Western Mails ‘articles’.

Scrum Laws Are a Changing

So the IRB have decided to go on the offensive with cheats.

No longer content with simply punishing law cheats such as Tom Williams, Dean Richards and Harlequins the IRB have decided to become proactive and stamp out loop holes.

To that end they have changed the rugby laws to stop teams goign to uncontested scrums when it is simply because they are getting hammered in the set piece.

Not yet cumpolsory laws these new ELV’s are quite interesting and could help to a degree. Read the article to learn more

2009 British Lions DVD out

British Lions DVD
The new 2009 British Lions DVD is out, and it looks great!
I’ve been in love with these things ever since the Living with the Lions from the last South Africa tour allowed us to see behind the scenes with the lads, the laughter, banter, the speaches and the training sessions. It is amongst my most watched of DVD’s.
Whilst the last few British Lions DVD’s haven’t been as good, they simply don’t look like they’ve had as much fun, I have high expectations for this one. …

Rugby in the Olympics

Rugby is now an Olympic event!!!!

The IoC has voted on making rugby and golf an Olympic event, starting from the 2016 Olympics (shame it’s not 2012 but we can’t have everything).

Great news in my opinion. I love rugby, I love the Olympics and I love watching the sevens tournaments. Really looking forward to seeing it happen.

Come on Wales!

Hi all.  First to let you know that no I am NOT dead – swine flu didn’t manage to finish me off I’m afraid.  But between that and a few other illnesses I haven’t been blogging much – and working my backside of in advance of my move to London town, which I understand is expensive.
So what is this about rugby girlfriends?  It’s to do with my traffic (for those of you who don’t know traffic means the amount of people that visit the blog everyday).
I am constantly amazed at …

Matthew Watkins joins Newport Dragons

Matthew Watkins joins Newport Gwent Dragons
A hugely Earth shattering bit of news this. For Dragons fans.
Sorry but I have to say I am far from a Matthew Watkins fan. Fine as a back up for injuries or to cover smaller games but with all the movement that the Dragons have seen in the centre (including Stretch retiring) that leaves Matthew Watkins and Rhodri Gomer-Davies as their first choice partnership.
Gareth George on twitter sums it up with this eloquent quote
NOOOOOOOOOO GUTTED
He is, in case you couldn’t guess, a Newport-Gwent …

Darren Morris joins Cardiff Blues

Darren Morris, formerly of Swansea, Leicester, Wales and Worcester, has joined up with the Cardiff Blues on a 6 month contract.

A useful signing for the Blues who need the propping cover – surprised to see that the Ospreys didn’t get him though, would have thought they needed him with Adam’s injury.

Will be very interesting to see how Darren Morris does at the Leckwith this season
